At the meetings,B.J Tuttleton informs the group of crimes that have occurred during the past month, gives crime prevention tips and informs those in attendance ways to cut down or prevent crimes. The ultimate goal of the group is to establish block groups of crime watchers to help neighbors keep a watch over each other's property and to report suspicious activity to the Everman Police Department. It is a well known fact that people who live in a certain area of the city are aware and take notice of anyone or anything that doesn't belong. Neighborhood Crime Watch theorizes that the more eyes that are watching the area, the less likely it becomes for the criminal element to take place. The group is currently designing a new Neighborhood Crime Watch sign that will be placed in areas that have watch groups. This will alert the criminal element that residents care about what goes on in their area and that they are watching out for each other. While this doesn' t guarantee that a crime will not be committed, it has been proven that the signs do serve as a deterrent.
